Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour

24 - 26 February 2012

The Armor All Bathurst 12 hour – now a thrilling fixture on the motorsport calendar, becomes more exciting each year and 2012 will be no different. The 5th annual Bathurst 12 Hour was held in 2011.  Supporting the event were five race categories comprising Historic Touring Cars Group A/C, Group N, HQ Holden’s, Improved Production and Formula Vee.

In 2011 over three days, in excess of 18,000 attended this event to witness 17 hours of amazing racing featuring a number of thrills and spills around the circuit including a windscreen in a power line. Over 250 race vehicles participated in the event including 26 entrants in the Bathurst 12 hour race. Don't miss out on any of the action, there's plenty of support categories racing as well, with three day and single day passes available.

GT Vehicles such as Porsche, Audi, Ferrari and Lamborghini also featured for the first time in 2011 to complete alongside production vehicles. Audi also recorded a history making 1-2 finish in the 12 event.

The 3 day event attracts drivers from across the country as well as a number of international teams.  The race has sent he likes of V8 Supercar drivers change codes for a week and also attract Hollywood superstars such as Eric Banner.

The longest endurance race in Australia, held at the country's most demanding circuit, the Bathurst 12 Hour will certainly seperate the men from the boys. The races origins began in 1991 and ran for 5 years before being lost to the pages of history. The revival of this trecherous endurance came in 2002 in the more demanding form of the Bathurst 24 Hour. Lasting only 2 years, the 24 Hour paved the way for a revised endurance and a revival of a classic Bathurst race.

One of the wettest weekends of racing recently took place in 2010, resulting in major racing havoc throughout the weekend and a slippery slide to the finish line.  The year will also always be remembered as 'The year the tree came down'. After days of torrential rain following years of drought, this tree at the top of Conrod Straight just couldn't handle the soft soil. Staff were quickly on hand to remove the tree, to allow racing to continue.

Running in the shadow of the Sueprcheap Auto Bathurst 1000, Bathurst Regional Council has decided to recognise the achievements of the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour winners with their own Victors Walk. The original Victors Walk is located on the footpath outside the Bathurst Regional Council Civic Centre, and bears the plaques of past winners of the Bathurst 1000 back to 1963. To take a leave from that book, the new Endurance Walk will feature similar plaques with the teams and drivers who have won the 12 Hour. The new plaques will begin from 2007 when the event was picked up after a lenghty absence.
